Engagement Shoot on the canal

2011.11.1

Working on the edit for an engagement shoot I shot about a week ago and there just something about this shot I really like. Maybe it’s just that I really like the Cherry Creek trail here in Denver, who knows : )

Window by the bay

11.4.27

Kaitllin and I arrived in Norfolk, VA today to spend some time with our good friends Mary and Ryan. Found this window on the side of a garage while out for a walk. I think a whole house covered in wood like this would be awesome.

First attempt at a little planet

11.4.5-1

WIth my lack of mobility I’ve been doing a poor job of going a Photo of the Day up on here, so I wanted my first day back to be something cool and new. This didn’t go as well as I had planned, but it’s still kind of neat. It’s basically a 360 degree panoramic stretched into a circle so that it looks like a mini planet. I still have some messing around to do to get these looking right, but I think it’s an interesting concept at least. You can see a larger version by clicking here.

Building next door

11.3.24

This is as far out of the apartment as I made it today: out our unit’s door and up a few steps to take this photo out the window. It’s a shame really – some of the best windows in our building are the ones in the stairwells where no one really gets to appreciate them for more than a few seconds on their way up or down. The building next door is pretty neat – a friend once called it Rapunzel’s castle (if you could see the front you’d understand why).

Getting artsy

11.3.14

Made this image this morning by shooting three bracketed shots as the sun rose behind me and shown on downtown Denver. I combined those images using some HDR software suggested by my good buddy Tim Street. HDR basically helps a photo be seen closer to what the naked eye sees it as … a camera can’t typically interpret areas of such varying contrast in the same frame (i.e. the buildings vs. the sky). I then pulled down the saturation a bit. I really like the contrast of the older buildings in front of the skyscrapers. I feel like it adds to the sort of  ”other-worldliness” of this image. I could have done without the electric wires, but hey, we’ll just call them “leading lines.” (Thanks, Claude).

Denver skyline

11.3.9-1

I snuck into the Red Roof Inn (not difficult) across the street from our place to get this shot of a beautiful sunset this evening. Despite my bum knee, hopped a fence on their roof to get around a tree blocking the view, and it was worth it. The funny part is that the colors of this sunset were very cool (click below to see the color version) but I really liked the black and white. I feel like it helps you notice to the textures in the sky since you’re not distracted by the color. … Continue Reading

Skys from the clinic

11.3.3-1

So I had a bit of a snowboarding accident a couple weeks ago, and after seeing the doctor last week, he thinks I may have torn my ACL. So I got to take a trip today to the clinic. This main photo is of the sky outside the clinic next to the parking garage. The MRI machine was actually in a mobile unit outside the hospital – ironic really, as it’s a $3 million piece of equipment in a trailer park-type trailer. If you’ve ever wondered what an MRI inside a trailer looks like, click below.

Sunrise, Sunset

11.3.2

I snapped one of these on the way home from dropping Kaitlin off at work early this morning, and the other one tonight on my way to pick her up. I actually kind of missed the light in the second shot, but I bumped the ISO all the way up to 6400 and it handled it fairly well. One day, one city, two photos to frame the day. Makes you wonder what all happens it a city like this in any given day.

Walk around the state capital

11.2.27-1

Here some trivia for you: The 13th step on the west side of the Colorado state capital is exactly 5,280 ft., or exactly one mile, above sea level. They even imprint it with that designation. I spent a little time walking around the state house today snapping some shots. And to make it two days in a row of photos with commonly-seen, usually-annoying animals, I’ve included a photo of a squirrel (follow link below). Enjoy.

At the bank

11.2.21

Spent an hour at the bank today opening a business account. Snapped this photo of their ceiling while the banker wasn’t looking. Felt like a real rebel.
