Leaving Alamosa

11.7.29

Kaitlin and I headed home today after a good month spent in Alamosa, CO. So I thought – to put book ends on the trip – how about a photo of Mt. Blanca on the way out shot with my arm out the window of the car just like I started the month with on the way into town.

Willow Lake

11.7.19

Took a nice day hike (my first tougher hike since surgery!) up to Willow Lake from Crestone, CO today. It’s the approach trail for the 14ers Challenger Point and Kit Carson. I somehow convinced Kaitlin to jump in the water after I had – she isn’t a cold water swimmer like me. But I think the fact that we had to hike the last couple miles in our rain jackets despite the hot weather due to the mosquitoes probably helped :) Click below for a shot of the lake – it was beautiful.

A better classroom

11.7.13

I’ve decided to try and relearn a little Arabic while I’m down in Alamosa this month. This was my study spot yesterday – right out our back door. I’ve gotta say, for all the good things Ballentine Hall had going for it at IU, I’d much rather learn me some squiggly in this spot any day.

On the road to Alamosa

11.7.1

Took this out the window as we were on our way to Alamosa today (if other drivers saw me with a camera to my eye, they would probably do a double take). I chose the aged photo look because driving through these tiny Colorado towns, it’s easy to feel like you’ve been transported back to the 1800s.

On the way to Cali

11.6.24

Took all these on my phone from the plane window on our way to California. Though I didn’t put them in any sort of order, I think it’s cool to see the mountains change into some plains, then the end of the mountains followed closely by the ocean.

Clouds and Stars

11.5.22

So I know that I’ve been slacking big time on the Photo of the Day blog. There are two reasons for this: 1) I’ve been lazy, and 2) We’ve been in the process of moving for the last week or so, which is always more of a process than you expect it to be. I snapped this photo last night from our new (awesome) deck. It doesn’t really look like it, but this one was actually taken at 9:30pm. I exposed it for 20 seconds. The clouds actually looked like this, which was really cool, and the long exposure brought the stars out that weren’t visible to the naked eye.

Kill Devil Hills, NC

11.4.29

Took a little side trip from Norfolk to visit the beach near Nag’s Head, NC. We were trying to find a cute little bed and breakfast online, but decided everything was too expensive. But then I found this Ramada in Kill Devil Hills – just north of Nag’s Head, NC – that had balconies overlooking the water. We ate some delicious seafood and played a little mini golf … all in a good day’s fun.

Found this on my walk to the coffee shop.
